The van Beuren Charitable Foundation supports organizations active in Newport County – primarily on Aquidneck Island – but will consider any proposal with a clear and direct benefit to the area’s residents. We focus on supporting projects and programs in the following four areas: land use and conservation, historic preservation, education and health.
Land Use & Conservation
Goal: to conserve open space and agricultural land in Newport County, support land use strategies that align public and private interests, and enhance the economic viability of both traditional and emerging industries that respect and sustain the County’s natural beauty and resources.

Goal: to preserve and enhance the distinctive quality of place that has emerged from Newport County’s history, geography and culture.
Education
Goal: A well-educated community that positions Newport County competitively for desirable economic growth and effectively stewards its cultural and natural resources.
